About us
Welcome to the Birds of Qatar Website

This website is operated by the Qatar Bird Observation Group (QBOG), a collective of voluntary entities and individuals who share a strong passion for bird observation and documentation in the State of Qatar. The initiative brings together various social media platforms, birding groups, and the Qatar Birds Records Committee (QBRC).

The QBRC serves as the scientific authority responsible for maintaining and reviewing the official record of all wild bird species documented in Qatar.

The primary aim of the Qatar Bird List is to support national and international conservation efforts by providing accurate, reliable, and up-to-date information on the birds recorded in Qatar. An important component of this mission is encouraging observers and researchers to submit records and field observations, helping to maintain a comprehensive and continuously improving picture of the country’s avifauna.

The Committee evaluates submitted records and determines which species and observations qualify for inclusion in the official Qatar Bird List, thereby ensuring a validated and current reference for the nation’s wild birds.

The earliest known bird observation records in Qatar date back to 1974. Between 1974 and 2006, records of rare birds were collected, although not always in a fully systematic manner. The Qatar Bird Records Committee (QBRC) was established in 1996 as a voluntary body, and fully standardized and systematic recording of bird observations began in 2006.
