Named after its green legs, this is a passage migrant and winter visitor that is observed in all months of the year. Many young birds spend their first summer in Qatar, and only return to their breeding grounds in their second summer season. With its long upturned bill and even longer legs, it has a distinctive shape. The call is equally distinctive, being a loud, ringing tri-syllabic "tuu-tuu-tuu".
