One of the most recognisable of all birds, this is a spring and autumn passage migrant that can sometimes be seen all year round. Named after its fluty "oo-pooh-poo" call, the Hoopoe will raise its striking pinky-orange and black-striped crest when alarmed. It feeds on the ground on lawns and fields with short grass, as well as among bushes and on dirt tracks. When it flies, it reveals its zebra-striped wings and tail.
